The Parenting Young Children Program
 The PYC Program is a well-researched approach to assisting parents of young children manage their normal and challenging behavioral needs. The PYC Program is delivered to parents individually, or in very small groups, to allow facilitators to best understand each family’s unique situation.

 The PYC Program includes four parts:
  •       Help parents learn to slow down before responding to challenging  behavior.
  •       Teach parents to set appropriate expectations based on the child's development.
  •       Reinforce the importance of nurturing and positive parenting.
  •       Provide positive and proven discipline strategies.  

Services
Trained facilitators will conduct an individualized assessment of your family’s needs and design a parenting program that builds on your family’s strengths (about 7 to ten one-hour weekly sessions).

Staff
Dr. Bonnie Nicholson, Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at The University of Southern Mississippi, directs the  Parenting Young Children Program.  Graduate students are trained as parenting facilitators and participate in all aspects of the clinic.

Parenting classes are available at a low cost (approximately $10/session). Contact Dr. Nicholson for details.
